connection definition

Post by maciek »

It is the way you can declare products and services that you use in making/providing your product/service. Think of a connection as if it were a product or service feeding into (incoming) your product/service.

This mechanism is not designed to handle outgoing connections, i.e. to products or services that use your products or services. Ranking calcs treat each declared connection as incoming. The logic is that the decision to use certain products and services to make/deliver your product/service rests entirely with you. It is not the case with who buys your product/service.

Each product or service registered on Planetarian may have many connections. At least one connection should be declared but it's not always obvious to new users: the connection from Planetarian Web Service.

Example

Imagine a maker of tools consisting of wooden handles and steel parts. Wood comes from one supplier, steel from another. In the Connections section of the product profile, the tool maker can declare each product from each supplier.

Ranking of each connection affects the ranking of the produced tool. Rankings are recalculated as soon as something affecting the ranking changes, e.g. a statement gets a new/updated answer.
